Click Frenzy – The Main Event: What to expect in Australia’s biggest shopping event of 2022

More and more Aussies are shopping online. It has become so popular that Australia’s online shopping market size has grown by 20.2% over the last five years.

They are also into saving when it comes to shopping. According to AusPost, one of the top three considerations for online shopping is cost savings. So when big discounting events roll around, Aussies are only too happy to indulge. And that explains why Click Frenzy has gone from strength to strength as a major fixture on the e-commerce calendar. 

What is Click Frenzy?

Click Frenzy is Australia’s biggest shopping event which takes place six times a year for a limited period. The sale usually includes over 500 brands, offering fashion, technology, and homeware items at huge discounts, sometimes up to 90% off.

Their success led them to launch Click Frenzy NZ last May, the company’s first event in the country.

When does Click Frenzy happen?

This year’s Main Event will go live at 7 pm (AEST)  on Tuesday, 8 November, and will run for 53 hours until midnight on Thursday, 10 November. 

If you miss this one, don’t fret. Other Click Frenzy events happen annually, at least once per quarter. Check out their website and event calendar for more information on the upcoming dates.

Traffic statistics

In the days leading up to the event, traffic spikes sharply, beginning 24 to 48 hours before the event.

In 2021, Click Frenzy’s traffic grew by 57% compared to 2020, and more than 1.2 million Australians are expected to participate this year.

Trends and highlights

During the last November Click Frenzy, Skimlinks data revealed that the top product categories were: 

  • Appliances: During Click Frenzy, vacuum cleaners topped the list in this category
  • Sex Toys and Lingerie: The adult toys and lingerie were among the most popular items last year
  • Home Furnishings: There was also a huge interest in new things for the home during the Click Frenzy, particularly in evergreen items such as bedsheets and towels
  • Fashion:  For those trying a new style, the Click Frenzy was one of the best times to purchase fashion items, whether casual or sportswear.
  • Health and Beauty: Shoppers looked for great deals on beauty box sets and advent calendars during the holiday season.

To help you get started, here’s a checklist to get things rolling before the ‘frenzy’: 

Prepare your content

  • Plan your articles in advance: Start by conducting keyword analysis to determine top-performing headlines for SEO. Then, utilise the Merchant Search tool, and Product Bought Report in the Publisher’s Hub to get more insights. 
  • Make timely updates to existing content during the event: Remember that commerce content that works well for one e-commerce event can typically be good performers in other holidays, too, so don’t forget to refresh your previously published articles.  

Install your tools

  • Download the Editor Toolbar: This Chrome extension can help see if a merchant offers a commission and their average commission rate from the last 90 days. 
  • Make sure to set up these tech tools, too: 
    • Install the JavaScript: Turn Publishers’ website links into affiliate links, and generate revenue with them. With JavaScript, you don’t have to manually hardcode affiliate links, saving you time.
    • Enable Dynamic Link Optimisation: This tool automatically redirects your readers to the merchant’s home page or category page if the original link is broken.  
    • Install AMP: By integrating Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) with JavaScript, Publishers will have one solution across their domains and all commission data at their fingertips.

Share your content

  • Create specific landing pages for Click Frenzy: These pages can showcase a few of the best deals, free shipping, or big discounts to help customers find what they’re looking for quickly.
  • Post your content on social media: Your social media posts should link directly to the relevant landing page or article to allow readers to access your posts easily. 
  • Include your pieces in your newsletter: Include links in newsletters sent out before and during the event to reach a wider audience.
