It is with a dizzying flurry of emotions that I share some exciting news. After over 10 years of founding and leading Skimlinks from zero to over $50m in revenues, I have made the decision to hand over the CEO reins to our current Chief Revenue Officer, Sebastien Blanc.
This has not been an easy decision, as you would expect. I have taken an immense amount of pride and fulfilment in building this company, and our mission continues to excite me. Building our team with my co-founder Joe, and working alongside such extraordinary people has been a joy every day.
We’ve had 10 years of amazing growth and achievements: we’ve hired incredible people over the years, raised $25m in venture funding, and signed up 57,000 publisher clients that run our technology on 4.5m websites around the world. We’ve launched industry-defining products that have made a material impact on the way journalism is funded. We see a billion users across our network every month, and reward publishers for the $1bn in commerce those users drive. We’ve become a profitable company and done all of this while maintaining a team culture that is so special it has a name (#skimlove).
I am incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved as a team. However, my passion and talent lies in turning an idea into a thriving business, and now Skimlinks needs a leader who can take a thriving business like Skimlinks through its next growth phase.
That leader is Sebastien Blanc. He has been at Skimlinks for 2 years as CRO, and under his leadership he has brought rigour, drive for excellence, and a growth mindset: not only to the Revenue function but the business as a whole. His passion for Skimlinks – our team, customers and mission – made him the natural choice to take over responsibility of my baby.
His goal is to continue growing Skimlinks as a profitable company and surpass $100m revenue in the next few years, still known by our team as being a great place to work, and by our publisher customers as an innovative deliverer of solutions to their monetization problems.
Seb will become CEO effectively immediately, and I will move to the role of President and Board member. In this non-operational role, I will still be involved in supporting Seb, in meeting with our clients and partners, and in evangelising our vision of helping publishers diversify their revenues by monetizing content through commerce.
This will also mean I will be able – after a break to decompress – to focus on areas I have strength and passion: starting and building early-stage companies, and helping others do the same. I’ll announce more on this shortly, you can keep abreast of my news on all the usual social media channels.
But for now, please join me in wishing Seb a huge congratulations, and supporting him on this thrilling and worthy journey forward from here, as leader of Skimlinks. The founders’ baby is in good hands. I could not be more pleased and excited for this next stage of Skimlinks’ tale.
