Elevate your A/B testing with Skimlinks’ revenue data

Posted 7 months ago by Monika Lescevska

The only way for a publisher to level-up their content to a top-converting article is testing. With Skimlinks’ CustomIDs you can elevate your A/B testing with revenue data.

A/B testing is the process of testing variations of the same page in order to find out which one is more effective in driving revenue.

The overall process is easy and you can use the results to optimize your content strategy and future articles:

  1. Groups of users are exposed to version A or B (or more) of a page for a limited period of time
  2. Performances of each version are measured against each other based on set KPIs (clicks, sales, average order value…)
  3. 100% of the audience is then sent to the best-performing variation

You can use A/B testing to optimize your content on your website, social media, newsletters… by focusing on your conversion rates, engagement, revenue, and more.

Find the best-revenue driving article combination from title variation, number of products and placements or call-to-action…

With Skimlinks CustomID you can elevate your A/B testing with conversion, EPC and revenue data.

Custom ID is a part of an affiliate link (34 characters max) where you can include any type of information that you want to track back to a sale.

Every publisher has their own unique information they want to capture. With CustomID, Skimlinks provides publishers with a field that allows them to measure what’s most important.

And when it comes to A/B testing, CustomID will allow you to A/B test title variations, positions of links on the page, article types, call to action, you name it! This way you can identify the most revenue-generating combination.

Compared to other A/B testing tools, Skimlinks CustomID helps you bring in valuable data to the mix like conversions, sales, AOV, EPC…, allowing you to optimize on the sales you make from your commerce content.

Once you generate a sale from your content, you will see all the CustomID information that you encoded in the Revenue Source Report (or the Reporting API or the DataPipe).

How to set-up CustomIDs?

Setting up your CustomIDs, with your own naming convention, is a very straightforward process that you can do directly in the Publisher hub or the Editor toolbar. CustomID also works with our Javascript and Server Side Implementation.

In the Toolbox section of the Publisher Hub under Link Generator:

  • Select your domain
  • Paste the URL of a product page you want to turn into an affiliate link
  • Add the Referring page URL (optional)
  • Add in the CustomID field, use your own naming convention to track the information that matters to you (version…).
The CustomID is set at a link level.
  • Paste the newly created link in your content

In the “Get link” section of the Skimlinks Editor Toolbar:

  • No need to set the page URL, it is the page you are on
  • Add the Referring page URL (optional)
  • Add your own CustomID tracking
  • Paste the newly created link in your content

Now it is your turn to test your commerce content to select the best-converting version ahead of the shopping peak season. These insights will also help you refine your future content strategy to opt for the versions that your audience engage with the most and that will be the most susceptible to maximize your revenue potential.
