Its All About the Cookies, Pt. 2: How to Disclose

Posted 2 years ago by Kasia Grobelny

In It’s All About the Cookies, Part 1 we talked about what the EU Privacy Directive is and what it means for our publishers.

“As many of you are aware (particularly our European publishers), on May 26th, the EU is beginning to enforce their Privacy Directive, a.k.a. the ‘Cookie Law,’ which is designed to help users gain a better understanding into how websites use cookies to track their behavior.”

Basically, compliance with the new EU “Cookie Law” comes down to informed consent. This means that you should take steps to let your publishers know what types of cookies you use on your site.

This has raised the question, “What do I need to do to comply with the new cookie law- Do you have any recommended text?”

Disclosure Text

This is a sample of the text you can include in your privacy policy or a message to your users.

“Our website contains some affiliate marketing links, which means we get paid commission on sales of those products or services we write about. Our editorial content is not influenced by advertisers or affiliate partnerships. We use a 3rd Party to enable these affiliate partnerships. You can read their Privacy Policy and find more information on the cookies they use.”

We also recommend to all of our users that they share our Disclosure Badge on their site.

Available to all Skimlinks publishers, to help you maintain an honest relationship with your users, we’ve created some smart Skimlinks badges that can be placed on your site and will disclose your use of Skimlinks technology in a small info pop-up.

We’ve even woven our referral program into the disclosure badge. This means that if you feature our disclosure badge on your site and someone clicks through and signs up for Skimlinks, you’ll receive 12% of the commissions that we earn from that site for a year! For more information on our referral program, visit our Learning Center.

At Skimlinks we’re all about disclosure. If you have any questions about how our service works, our cookies, our privacy policy, or the new EU Privacy Directive, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Email support@skimlinks.com.
